(RELEASE) Generation Hope Announces National and State Policy and Advocacy Agenda Alongside Inaugural Student Parent Advocacy Alliance

Generation Hope, an organization dedicated to ensuring all student parents have the opportunities to succeed, announced today its 2024 National and State Policy and Advocacy Agenda in tandem with the launch of its very first Student Parent Advocacy Alliance. Throughout the six-month program, the organization will collaborate with student parent voices to enhance their advocacy skills and develop a comprehensive annual policy agenda to serve student parents at state and national levels.

Generation Hope founder and CEO, Nicole Lynn Lewis has been named a 2023 Washingtonian of the Year by Washingtonian magazine. Lewis is honored among 10 local heroes highlighted for their efforts to make the region a better place to live. Lewis and other recipients will appear in the publication’s January 2024 print issue, which will be on newsstands on December 21, 2023.

(RELEASE) Generation Hope Releases Brief to Combat Intimate Partner Violence Among Student Parents on College Campuses

Today, Generation Hope announced the release of "Student Parents & Intimate Partner Violence,” which sheds light on the critical need to integrate intimate partner violence (IPV) prevention and response strategies into support systems for student parents. Although nearly a quarter of young mothers under the age of 19 experience physical or sexual abuse during their pregnancy, IPV among this group is still underrecognized nationally. The brief also highlights the alarming fact that IPV often remains hidden in the shadows on — and off — college campuses, and can have devastating impacts on students, especially those who are caring for children.

Nonprofit Generation Hope announced today the release of “On a Journey for Families: Lessons Learned from Colleges Investing in Student Parents,” offering a comprehensive look into the insights and knowledge gained from its 2021-2023 FamilyU Cohort, which successfully concluded in July of this year. The report also outlines how the FamilyU Cohort enhanced the knowledge, skills, and effectiveness of student parent work at each of the participating institutions.

Nonprofit Generation Hope announced today they will host their inaugural national conference, HOPE 2024: Where Change Happens for Student Parents & Families, on March 13 - March 15, 2024 at the New Orleans Marriott in New Orleans, LA. As the organization continues to champion inclusivity and support for student parents, the HOPE 2024 conference will convene advocates, policymakers, higher education leaders, youth practitioners, and student parents dedicated to dismantling systemic hurdles that prevent this population from earning postsecondary credentials and moving into family-sustaining careers.

Generation Hope is set to officially welcome its first class of scholars in the summer of 2023, partnering with local universities, organizations, and advocates to bolster student parent work in the area.
