Joana Vargas
Administrative Coordinator

Joana graduated from the City University of New York (CUNY) with a Bachelor's Degree in Economics and Business but she always knew she was going to make her career in education and work in non profit organizations. Her family immigrated to New York from the Dominican Republic when she was 10 years old and had to overcome many challenges including navigating the public school system, learning a new language while adapting to new culture.

She started her work in education teaching 4th grade, then transitioned to working in Operations at various Charter Schools supporting families, teachers and students. Joana is excited to support the mission of Generation Hope as the Administrative Coordinator and work alongside a team of talented and dedicated individuals who are invested in helping teen parents achieve their hopes and dreams. Joana enjoys nature, taking care of her plants and traveling the world!

Quote:

"Without courage we cannot practice any other virtue with consistency. We can’t be kind, true, merciful, generous, or honest."
— Maya Angelou

Why I chose this quote:

This quote reminds me that we must push ourselves out of our comfort zones in order to grow as a person and help those around us. Being courageous in our day to day lives is difficult but necessary.
