Bria Wade
Scholar Program Coordinator (DC)

Bria is super excited to officially be a member of the Generation Hope team! She is very proud to be from New Jersey, but has planted roots in DC over the last 8 years and has grown to love the city and the community more and more each day. She graduated from Georgetown University with a BA in African American Studies and a minor in Education, Inquiry & Justice. Since graduating, she has been deeply involved in education innovation across the city, working in both education nonprofits and charter schools. Throughout this work, she’s learned so much about the nuances of the education system and feels even more committed to the work of reducing barriers for folks at the margins. She’s so grateful for the opportunity to continue supporting young people and hopes to channel the wisdom of her mother who attained two degrees as a teen parent.

In her free time, she’s very likely watching reality tv with friends or trying a new DC restaurant to find the best cocktail in the city!

Quote:

“Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation and that is an act of political warfare.” — Audre Lorde

Why I chose this quote:

This quote reminds me that our society was not built to value folks like myself. Self-care should not be a luxury, it is a requirement for me to continue to show up for my community, but also myself.
