For the Media

The National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy reports that less than 2% of women who have a child before the age of 18 complete college by age 30.  This dismal number means that thousands of families in Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia that began with a teen pregnancy are suffering from the effects of low educational attainment, including poverty.

If we truly care about reducing poverty, we have to care about the futures of teen mothers and teen fathers as well as the futures of their children.  Media coverage can play a huge role in this effort by providing information on how increasing the educational attainment of teen parents can have positive, rippling effects on their children and our entire community.
